"The Tipping Point" Book Discussion
Tipping Point -- Introduction and Discussion
Submitted by Steve Brady on Fri, 2007-02-23 10:02."The Tipping Point" identifies three rules that help a topic/subject to "tip." These rules are:
1. The Law of the Few
2. The Stickiness Factor
3. The Power of Context
As you can imagine, our discussion here, and especially on "the Stickiness Factor" will tie in directly to our future discussion on Made to Stick.
I have already started a forum topic on the "Law of the Few." Feel free to join in to that topic, and contribute, but I also wanted to let you all know two things:
1. I do not want to "drive" the discussion. This isn't a class, and certainly this group of people doesn't need my help to discuss.
Tipping Point "Law of the Few"
Submitted by Steve Brady on Fri, 2007-02-23 09:57.As I identified elsewhere, The Tipping Point identifies three rules. The first of the rules identified, and covered in chapter 2, is the "Law of the Few." Gladwell asks on page 32, "Why is it that some trends and messages 'tip' and others don't?" He then goes on to identify what he believes enables some people to be influential and by corollary why others are not.
The three "types" of people he identifies are Connectors , Mavens, and Salesmen.
I would like to use this discussion section for our group to share our views on these three types of people, and how accurate you believe Gladwell's assessment to be.
Who we are
Submitted by Steve Brady on Wed, 2007-02-21 14:08.I thought it would be helpful, for those willing to do it, to post a little about ourselves. I believe we have a somewhat "diverse" group (at least in careers/backgrounds) joining us, so feel free to post a little about yourself.
